About the Typhoid Vaccine

Typhoid fever is a bacterial infection spread through contaminated food and water. The vaccine reduces the risk of this potentially serious illness.

South Asia (especially India, Pakistan, Bangladesh), Africa, Southeast Asia, and parts of Central/South America.

High-risk travellers

Those visiting rural areas, staying with friends/family, or with adventurous eating habits. Aid workers and long-term travellers are at higher risk.

Vaccine Schedule & Administration

  • Injectable vaccine: Single dose, lasts 3 years.
  • Oral vaccine: 4 capsules taken every other day, lasts 3 years.
  • Best taken: At least 1-2 weeks before travel.

Common side effects:

Injectable: Soreness at injection site, mild fever. Oral: Abdominal discomfort, nausea.

Who cannot have the vaccine?

  • Injectable: Those with severe allergies to vaccine components.
  • Oral: Immunocompromised individuals, those on antibiotics.
