Parts of Africa, Asia, and Central/South America where rabies is common in dogs and other animals.

High-risk travellers

Travellers to remote areas, cyclists, runners, cavers, veterinarians, and those working with animals. Children are at higher risk due to playful interactions with animals.

Vaccine Schedule & Administration

  • Pre-exposure: 3 doses at 0, 7, and 21-28 days.
  • Post-exposure: Still required after animal bites, but fewer doses needed if pre-vaccinated.
  • Validity: Booster may be needed after 1-3 years for ongoing risk.

Common side effects:

Soreness at injection site, mild fever, headache.

Who cannot have the vaccine?

  • Those with severe allergies to vaccine components.
  • People with weakened immune systems (consult doctor first).
