Rural areas of Southeast Asia, South Asia, and parts of the Western Pacific (especially during rainy season).

High-risk travellers

Those spending extended time in rural areas, especially near rice paddies or pig farms. Cyclists, campers, and outdoor workers are at higher risk.

Vaccine Schedule & Administration

  • Two-dose series: Given 28 days apart (accelerated schedule possible).
  • Booster: May be needed after 1-2 years if ongoing risk.
  • Best taken: Completed at least 1 week before travel.

Common side effects:

Headache, muscle pain, tenderness at injection site.

Who cannot have the vaccine?

  • Those with severe allergies to vaccine components.
